We live on the upper surface of this round Earth. But have we ever thought about what’s inside the Earth?
Generally, we go to space By rocket. But what if the rocket started to depart to the centre of the Earth? What could happen? Can it break through the world and get out on the other side?
How was the Earth formed?
The Earth was a lump of hot gas at the time of creation. From the heated state, it gradually cools and condenses. During this time, the heavy elements move towards the Earth’s centre, and the light elements gradually accumulate on the surface of the Earth according to their mass variation. The Earth consists of three layersCrust, Mantle and Core. The layer of the Earth we live on is the Crust. The deep Crust is located about 30 to 64 km from the Crust. This layer of the Earth is made up of different types of rocks and minerals. The temperature below this layer can range from 500 to 1000 degrees Celsius.
There is a Mantle below the crust layer. This layer consists of heavy materials like Silicon and Magnesium. It is expanding nearly up to 2895 kilometres. The temperature is gradually increasing while going below the Crust. The temperature of this layer may vary up to 4000 degrees Celcius.
The core is the centre of the Earth. The radius of this layer from the Mantle near about 3475 kilometres. This centre layer is made up of hard and heavy materials like Iron, Lead, Nickel, and Mercury. It can be divided into two parts. The outer part is called the outer core, made with liquid substances. And the inner core consists of Iron and Nickel, which is very hard.
The most accepted hypothesis about the centre of the Earth is given by the Danish seismologist Lange Lehmann. He said
” The centre part is solid, and surrounding the solid part is a liquid part.”
Can humans go to the centre of the Earth?
From the creation of the Earth, the centre is gradually getting cold. But till now, the temperature of this inner core is near about 6000 degrees Celcius, which is roughly equal to the surface temperature of the Sun. At this high temperature, all the machines become disabled.
So for that, till now, it was not possible to reach the centre of the Earth. So there isn’t any direct sample of the core till now. Scientists have got these ideas from the data related to Earth’s magnetic field and earthquakes. And all of these analyses are from there.
So it is impossible for humans to reach the centre of the Earth. A vehicle still needs to be developed to withstand the required pressure.
